From stabilized conditions to finished repairs
Repairs and Rebuild Planning After Mitigation
Emergency mitigation and permanent repair are different phases. Rebuilding too early can trap moisture, cover contamination or create avoidable rework.
Scope and process
Mitigation must be complete enough to support repair
Before closing walls or replacing finishes, affected areas should be dry, clean and suitable for reconstruction. The required checks depend on the original loss, materials removed, remaining structure and any mold, smoke or sewage conditions.
Moisture readings, visual records and a clear description of completed mitigation reduce the risk of rebuilding over an unresolved problem.

Repair and coordination options
- Reviewing the repair scope after damaged materials are removed.
- Identifying which finishes, assemblies and fixtures need replacement.
- Separating restoration work from upgrades or unrelated renovation requests.
- Preparing or reviewing a suitable repair estimate when the project is within scope.
- Coordinating qualified trades where electrical, plumbing, HVAC or other regulated work is required.
- Scheduling repairs around access, material availability and insurer approvals.
Practical guidance
Not every rebuild is accepted
Availability depends on project size, location, current workload, trade requirements and whether the repair fits the company’s residential and light-commercial scope. Thames Valley does not present itself as a national large-loss contractor or promise multi-site reconstruction capacity.
When a project requires resources outside the available scope, that should be identified before commitments are made.

Questions to settle before reconstruction
- Has the source of damage been corrected?
- Are remaining materials at acceptable moisture conditions?
- Has contamination or residue been addressed?
- Who is authorized to approve the repair scope?
- Which work requires a specialized or licensed trade?
- Are upgrades separate from insured like-kind repairs?
